Discrimination because of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation is prohibited. This is legislated for in the Equality Act 2010 (abbreviated to EqA 2010 and also referred to as the Equality Act), which collectively refers to these grounds as “protected characteristics”.
