CHAPTER 23 Monitoring,
searches and privacy
Introduction
6150

Many employers make some checks
on the quantity and quality of work
produced by their workers, for example counting the number of calls
made on a daily or weekly basis by telesales workers. Such
monitoring of work output is often termed performance monitoring. Employers may also check
their workers' behaviour and their conformity with company
policies, procedures and any legal requirements, for example
compliance with health and safety rules or discrimination rules.
This is commonly termed surveillance.
The right to privacy
is also discussed in section 3.
