Employment Memo

 CHAPTER 2  Pre-employment

The recruitment and selection of the right candidates is of vital importance to employers. Legal issues also impinge on this process. The employer must not discriminate against candidates on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation. It must also comply with the data protection rules. Once a successful applicant has been identified, the employer can make the applicant an offer of employment which may be subject to certain conditions, for example, receipt of references, passing of a medical, or evidence that the individual can work legally in the UK.
