Can we ban employees from using social networking sites during working hours?

Yes, but you may want to consider that some staff, particularly younger ones, may be resentful if you impose a total ban on sites such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Instead, consider introducing a rule that sets out when these sites can be accessed, such as during lunch and rest breaks, and some guidelines on what amounts to unacceptable use, e.g. to intimidate or poke fun at other staff. Tip. Link these rules to your disciplinary procedures. This should be enough to prevent time wasting and maintain good employee relations.
